Kochi, Oct 18 (UNI) The People's Forum for Natural Justice today challenged before the Kerala High Court against the State Government's decision to transfer senior IPS officer and Director General of Police (Prisons) M G A Raman to the post of Director of Kerala Books and Publications.

A public interest petition was filed by Mr Gokul Prasad, Secretary of the forum based in Palakkad.

The petitioner contended that the government's action was ''highly vitiated''. The immediate provocation for the transfer was that Mr Raman had made a statement before the High Court on October ten, 2007, that a section of political prisoners from the Kannur Central Jail be shifted to the Viyyur Jail in order to improve the situation in the Kannur Jail.

The DGP also stated before the court that prison officials were reluctant to serve in Kannur due to the ''clout'' exerted by the political prisoners.
