Kochi, Oct 18 (UNI) A petition was filed before the Kerala high today against the state government's decision to transfer senior IPS officer and Director General of Police (Prisons) M G A Raman to the post of Director of Kerala Books and Publications.
The public interest petition has been filed by Mr Gokul Prasad, Secretary, People's Forum for Natural Justice, Palakkad.
The petitioner contended that the government action was ''highly vitiated''. The immediate provocation for the transfer was that Mr Raman made a statement before the high court on October ten, 2007, that a section of the political prisoners from the Kannur central jail be shifted to the Viyyur jail in order to improve the situation in the Kannur jail.
The DGP also submitted that prison officials were reluctant to serve in Kannur due to the ''clout'' exerted by the political prisoners.
