Kathmandu, Oct 18 (UNI) The Nepal government has appointed four ambassadors including to India, without approaching the king for clearance.

The appointed ambassadors in the first phase are Tanka Karki for China, Surya Nath Mishra for Qatar and Dr Ganesh Yonjan Tamang for Japan. Dinesh Bhattarai was appointed as a permanent representative of Nepal's mission in Geneva.

The Government had forwarded the names of 21 ambassadors to the parliament hearing committee, However, the name of Shailaja Acharya, who is recommended for India could not go through because of her close association to King Gyanendra.

Despite this, the government had decided to appoint her as the ambassador to India and has sent her name for agreema. The agreema for other ambassadorial nominees have not been received yet.

This is the first time in the history of Nepal that the ambassadors have been appointed by the government and not by the king.
