Boy missing, 10,000 houses affected by flood in Manipur

Imphal, Oct 18 (UNI) A boy reportedly drowned while about 10,000 houses mostly at Imphal and Thoubal districts, were damaged, due to a fresh wave of flood in Manipur.

Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) Minister N.Biren Singh told UNI that the situation was almost under control. A large number of people were trying to save an embankment at Kiyamgei, Imphal East as the Imphal river was in spate, he added.

The minister said a boy was reported missing after floods at Kiyamgei. The missing figures was four, according to unofficial reports.

The IFCD officials were distributing sand bags and bamboo to the flood affected areas.

All the rivers and their tributaries in Manipur valley were flowing at a high level for the second day today.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Y.Erabot, Information Minister T N Haokip and other officials are touring the affected areas.

Schools were closed in Imphal East.

The Pangei and Lamlong bridges were also sealed due to the flood.

Work to save the breached embankments were on and security personnel were also pressed into service.
