Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) Six doctors from various Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run hospitals today withdrew their one month notice of resignation after the Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak assured them that he would look into the matter wherein a colleague of theirs was given an out of turn promotion.

The doctors were protesting against the out of turn promotion of Dr Harish Pathak, who was promoted as the professor of a medical college recently.

Mr Phatak said ''I will inquire into the case.'' Earlier, on October 11, the doctors had met Additional Municipal Commissioner and had given them one week's time for action.

The six doctors gave one month's notice of resignation to the Commissioner after their deadline for action against their colleague ended on Wednesday midnight.

Dr Shailesh Mohite, one of the doctors who had given the notice to the Commissioner, said ''Dr Pathak was made the professor in spite of many of us being in the pipeline for a long period.'' Dr Mohite is the Head of Forensic Department at Nair hospital, and the other doctors are working as lecturers in Sion and KEM hospitals.

Mr Phatak assured the protesting doctors that Dr Pathak had not been promoted and appropriate action would be taken after the completion of inquiry.

The six doctors will carry out their regular duties from tomorrow, as they were on leave for the past two days.
