Port Blair, Oct 18 (UNI) A team from the Criminal Investigation Department of Andaman and Nicobar Police recovered 8.305 kg of ganja from Port Blair, police said today.
Following a tip off that a person, travelling from Kolkata to Port Blair in the MV Nicobar ship, was in possession of ganja and would disembark at Haddo wharf here on October 16, a raid was conducted, police said.
The CID team conducted a search of the passengers and found 8.305 kg of ganja from one Naushad Shamim, a known burglar and history sheeter of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
During interrogation he revealed that he had purchased the ticket on a fake name to hide his identity and the ganja was purchased in Kolkata.
A case had been registered and Shamim arrested.
