Madurai, Oct 18 (UNI) Three women were killed on the spot and ten others injured, four of them serioulsy, when a van in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck loaded with Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at Ruthunagar near Melur, here today.
Police said Dr N Azhagappan, a resident of Madurai city and his 12 relatives were on their way to Thirukkattupalli in Thanjavur district when it collided with the truck proceeding to Virudhunagar from Chennai to supply IMFL to the State-owned TASMAC shops in the district.
The deceased were identified as N Mohana (60), mother of Dr Azhagappan, P Meenakshi (35) and S Vairachi (60).
The injured, including the driver of the truck, were rushed to Government Hospital at Melur. Four of them, whose condition was stated to be critical, were later, shifted to a private hospital.
