Madikeri, Oct 17 (UNI) Talacauvery, the birthplace of river Cauvery, is all set to welcome thousands of pilgrims converging there for the holy 'Teertodbhava' tomorrow.

Though October 17 (today) was the customary date for Teertodbhava, the change in the position of stars pushed the date by a day.

More than 25,000 pilgrims were expected to take the holy dip at the pond in front of the birth place of the Cauvery, where water oozes out at the designated time on this day every year. Pilgrims from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and many parts of south Karnataka visit the hilly district on the occasion.

Elaborate security arrangements were put in place at Bhagamandala and Talacauvery to regulate pilgrims.

Initial rituals began on October 16 with Bolladka Appaji and Kodi Madappa pouring rice into 'Akshaya Patra'. The 'Bhandara, kept at Bhagandeshwara temple, Bhagamandala was carried to Talacauvery after performing pooja today.

KSRTC and private buses will ply special services to Talacauvery from different parts of the state.

Police top brass held a special meeting to discuss law and order situation and security arrangements. The DAR, KSRP, Home Guards and other police troops would be deployed, Superintendent of police Trilok Chandra said.
