Rae Bareli, UP, Oct 17 (UNI) AICC president and local MP Sonia Gandhi today dedicated 18 roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna to the people.
Ms Gandhi dedicated the roads at Gaura Ubarni this afternoon.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 927.26 lakh, the 18 roads have a total length of 44.625 meters.
Later, while interacting with locals, the UPA chairperson assured opening up of a Gramin Bank at Dira Govindpur as the farmers found it difficult to collect their sugarcane dues.
Meanwhile in Lucknow, the UP Congress passed resolution thanking Ms Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and AICC General Secretary and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi for increasing the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat and extending the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) to all districts of the country.
In a meeting of district and city presidents of state Congress, newly-appointed UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi lamented that farmers were neither getting sufficient urea nor enough water for cultivation.
''The state government has failed to protect the farmers from middle-men who are thriving in the state,'' she alleged.
Meanwhile, the UP Congress has decide to organise a state-wide demonstration on October 25 to demand adequate power supply and irigation facilities for the farmers.
