Chandigarh, Oct 17 (UNI) Maharashtra snatched an exciting 6-4 verdict against plucky Rajasthan on the opening day of the 9th Senior Women and 5th Sub-Junior Girls National Cycle Polo Championships, being organised by Chandigarh Cycle Polo Association at The Banyan Tree School here today.
Maharashtra started with a bang by taking 3-0 lead in the first chukker. However, Rajasthan put up a tough resistance in the remaining three chukkers. They shared honours in the second with a 2-2 draw and shared two goals in the fourth chukker. They won the third chukker by 1-0.
Prachi topscored for Maharashtra with four goals, Deepika and Ruchika scored one each. For Rajasthan Nuzhat Naaz waged a lone-battle and scored four goals.
The other three matched billed for the day turned out to be one-sided affairs.
Kerala routed Karnataka by 19-0, with Ashna Ajij topscoring with six goals, Divya Babu scored four, including a hat-trick. Kavia Lakhshmi (4), Sonia Joseph (3) and Jiva Jose (2) were the other scorers.
Andhra Pradesh proved too good for Orissa whom they routed by 15-0. P Krisha (8), Suma Devi (4), Lavania (1), Priyanka (1) and Sandhya Rani (1) were the other markmen for the winners.
Chattisgarh blanked Jharkhand by 17-0. Sudeepthi (4), Poonam Verma (4, including a hat-trick), Shivangi Dube (4), Sonali (3) and Mridhula (1) were the scorers.
