Rae Bareli, UP, Oct 17 (UNI) Hundreds of people who had gathered here to interact with AICC president and local MP Sonia Gandhi, today complained of poor availability of urea.
Ms Gandhi, who is on a three-day tour of her parliamentary constituency, today interacted with locals during a 'mass contact' programme.
Following complaints, she asked the district administration to take necessary steps to ensure easy supply of urea. When the district administration officials informed her that the local urea committee was disbanded for being a defaulter, the AICC president suggested supply of urea through private distributors.
Ms Gandhi maintained that first efforts should be made to reinstate the committee after a probe. Otherwise, the district officials should use private distributors for the purpose.
Earlier today, Ms Gandhi inaugurated a night shelter at Ananda Devi Temple at Bhitar village. The night shelter has been constructed by the Tourism department at a cost of Rs 40 lakh.
Ms Gandhi also distributed tri-cycles to physically challenged people at the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) guest house here this morning.
This is the second day of her tour.
