Parliamentary panel to enlist views on sex education

Chennai, Oct 17 (UNI) The Committee on Petitions of the Rajya Sabha will visit the city on October 23 to interact with various bodies about the Centre's policy of imparting sex education in schools.

The Committee, headed by BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, would interact with parents, teachers' associations, State Government officials, educationalists, Non-Governmental Organisations and representatives of religious groups, an official release here said today.

The interaction would be based on the policy of the Union Human Resources Development to impart sex education, which was planned in the form of Adolescence Education Programme (AEP), meant for students of Central Board affiliated schools in the country, it said.

The Committee would also undertake field visits to some schools to gain first hand information on implementation of AEP.

Individuals and organisations interested in sharing their views and suggestions on sex education, could submit their memoranda or meet the Committee between 1030 and 1130 hrs on October 23 at Hotel Le Meridian, the release said.
