Chennai, Oct 17 (UNI) Union Panchayati Raj, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar today suffered a mild heart attack at his native Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu and was admitted to the Apollo Hospital here this afternoon.
Hospital sources said he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and a team of doctors, headed by a senior cardiologist, was monitoring him.
His condition was stated to be stable.
Mr S Rajakumar, Congress Legislator from Mayiladuthurai, who rushed Mr Aiyar to the hospital here, told UNI that the Minister suffered chest pain around 0300 hrs in his native town.
He was immediately brought to Tiruchirapalli by road, from where he was flown to Chennai. After he was given first aid at the Airport lounge here, he was referred to the Apollo for further treatment.
Mr Rajakumar said Mr Aiyar had come to Mayiladuthurai, his Lok Sabha constituency, on a three day programme yesterday.
