Fatehgarh Sahib, Oct 17 (UNI) Paramjit Kaur Khalra, wife of slain human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, today said she would approach Supreme Court to seek capital punishment for the policemen guilty of killing her husband.

While reacting to the Punjab and Haryana High Court decision yesterday to enhance the 7 year Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) of four Punjab policemen to RI for life, Ms Paramjit told mediapersons that the accused should have been hanged to death for their inhuman act.

She said that she would also pursue the case against two other policemen, who were acquitted by the court in the case of custodial death of Khalra who had embarked upon a mission to look into the death of innocent people by police, in September 1995, which was investigated by CBI on orders of the Supreme Court.

The recent decision of the High Court, she said, had proved that Punjab police had committed atrocities on people during terrorism.

''This is now a challenge for Sikh community and state government, and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should take immediate action against former Punjab DGP K P S Gill for the death of thousands of innocent persons,'' she said.

Saying that now the time had come to fix responsibility of all erring police officials ivolved in committing atrocities on innocent people, she also appealed to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to initiate proceedings to ex-communicate Gill from Sikh community.
