Kashmir University hosting Inter-University baseball championship

Srinagar, 0ct 17 (UNI) About 1000 players and officials are expected to participate in the six day-long All India Inter-University baseball championship-2007 being played at picturesque Kashmir University campus from Friday.

The championship is being hosted by the University of Kashmir in collaboration with the base/ball federation of India under the auspices of association of Indian universities, New Delhi.

This is the first major championship of its kind being held in the state.

Elaborate arrangements for the championship have been finalised by the directorate of physical education of Kashmir University.

Sixteen boys and as many girls have been selected to represent the university by a high power selection committee. The teams are presently undergoing intensive coaching camp.

The Director physical education of Kashmir university Dr K A Tarzan informed that the Kashmir University has signed up a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the baseball federation of India to develop the game in state.

He further informed that the services of highly qualified officials have been hired from national baseball Umpires organisation to conduct the inter-university championship smooth and successfully.
