Mumbai, Oct 17: Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL), a real estate developer, has won the contract for rehabilitation and resettlement of airport slums at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA).
Under a competitive bidding process this contract has been awarded to HDIL by the Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL), a joint venture between the GVK-SA consortium and Airports Authority of India, an official statement said here today.
MIAL, Chairman G V Krishna Reddy said, '' We are committed to undertake a model slum rehabilitation exercise in line with the policy laid down by the Maharashtra government and are confident that this would translate into a time-bound delivery of airport development.'' Mr Reddy expressed confidence that the rehabilitation and resettlement of slums on airport land will not only facilitate the development of CSIA but will also provide better facilities to the slum dwellers. ''MIAL plans to go beyond the minimum requirement as per the state government scheme while providing infrastructure to the resettled slum dwellers,'' Mr Reddy asserted.
CSIA is a severely land constrained airport with about 276 acres of airport land under slums, where the rehabilitation process will be undertaken in a phased manner between 18-48 months, he added .
