300-hr NH blockade disrupts traffic in Assam
Kokrajhar, Oct 17 (UNI) Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on National Highway 31 in Kokrajhar district of lower Assam today following the All Koch Rajbonshi Students Union (AKRSU) sponsored 300-hour economic blockade.
The blockade was called demanding Scheduled Tribe status for the community.
The blockade along NH 31, connecting the state as well as the entire North East region to the rest of the country, started this morning.
About 1000 AKRSU supporters squatted on NH 31 in the Garigaon area of Kokrajhar district since 0600 hours.
Traffic was completely stopped due to the blockade and was allowed to move with police escort. The situation was under control now, police said.
