Guwahati, Oct 16 (UNI) Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta along with other top officials of the ministry today reviewed the law and order situation in Assam.
Mr Gupta arrived here yesterday and reviewed the border situation with Bangladesh. Other officials, accompanying Mr Gupta, were Joint Secretary Home (North East) Naveen Verma, Joint Secretary, Border Management, G S Patnaik and Director of North East-I, A K Goyal, official sources said.
The review meeting was attended by the Assam Chief Secretary besides, DGP R N Mathur. The team visited the border areas of the state. Tomorrow they will fly to Imphal.
The team will fly to Moreh in a BSF chopper to hold consultations on the proposed fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border and construction of an integrated check post in the border town of Moreh.
On the same day after returning from Moreh, the team will call on Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh separately and review the law and order situation.
Army Chief Deepak Kumar is also in Assam today and has been visiting the forward bases.
