Agartala, Oct 16 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Cultural Minister Anil Sarkar today expressed grief over the demise of Meera Dev Burman, renowned singer and widow of legendary music director Sachin Dev Burman in Mumbai yesterday.
Meera died yesterday in Mumbai affer a prolonged illness.
In separate condolence messages both the leaders said S D Burman and his family put Tripura on the world music map and carry forward the culture of the state across the world.
Director, Cultural Department, Subhas Das along with senior officials, researchers and cultural community of the state offered condolence to the Burman family.
S D Burman, born in the royal family of Tripura, fell in love with Meera when he met her at All India Music Conference in Allahabad in 1937. Meera became Burman's student and married him the same year.
Tripura government celebrated the 101st birth anniversary of S D Burman in a befitting manner in the state while the Information and Cultural Minister Anil Sarkar had on September 15 visited the ailing Meera and presented her with a cheque of Rs one lakh.
