Top Maoist leader arrested

Guntur, Oct 16 (UNI) Police nabbed a top Maoist Leader M Rafi, who carried a reward of Rs three lakhs and was involved in 58 offences, including murder of six politicians, near Janapadu village in Guntur district early today.

Presenting Rafi and two other arrested Maoist members before the media here this evening, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mahesh Chandra Laddha said Rafi had taken active part in attack on the police party near Remidicherla village in April, 2004, exploding landmines targetting the police near MS Palem village in February, 2004 and exchange of fire with the police near Gandaganugala village in July, 2005.

The SP revealed that there were only six hardcore naxals in the district now, and appealed to them to surrender and join in the main stream.
