Srinagar, Oct 16 (UNI) Three militants of the Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen and a Special Police Officer (SPO) were among five people killed while the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested an ultra in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, an official spokesman said today.
He said a fierce encounter erupted between militants and security forces at Lancha village in Gool area of Ramban district today.
In the gun-battle, three Hizbul Mujahideen militants, identified as Showkat Ali, Rafiq and Noor Hussain, all residents of Gool were killed, the spokesman said, adding that an AK assault rifle, four magazines, two hand grenades, one wireless set and 90 rounds were seized from the possession of slain ultras.
Militants shot dead SPO Mushtaq Ahmad Khan near his house at Gujarpati Chandigam in north Kashmir's Kupwara district last night.
In another incident, police recovered a human skeleton from Barren Lane in Galwanpora area near Srinagar Airport last evening.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today claimed to have arrested a Hizbul Mujahideen militant during a search operation in the old city here.
CRPF spokesman Prabhakar Tripathi said personnel of the para-military force's 160 battalion cordoned off Nawa Bazar area in old city at around 1500 hrs this afternoon.
During the checking of vehicles and frisking of pedestrians, the CRPF personnel arrested 24-year-old Irshad Ahmed of the Hizb along with a hand grenade and two remote controlled devices, he added.
