Ornamental fishes seized at airport
Chennai, Oct 16 (UNI) Customs officials at Anna International Airport today seized 191 ornamental fishes, valued about Rs three lakh from two passengers, who arrived from Bangkok this evening.
The passengers Chellakannu (32), hailing from Pudhuvayal in Sivaganga district and Anantha Narayanan (22) from the city, tried to walk through the green channel, when the customs officials grew suspicious and intercepted them.
On opening their suitcases, it was found that they were clandestinely carrying the ornamental fishes in polythene bags, filled with water.
The official handed over the fishes to the Zoological Park at Vandalur and let off the passengers after imposing a fine, Airport sources said.
