Dubai, Oct 16 (UNI) The Indian embassy in Doha has referred two maids to repatriation as Indian maids continue to get a raw deal in the Gulf States.
Laxmi (30) came to Qatar from Andhra Pradesh two years ago. She said that her employer made false accusations against her since he didnot want her to work with his family any more, the Peninsula daily said.
She was handed to the police as the employer alleged that the maid had invited a Sri Lankan to his house. The police said they investigated the matter and found the allegations baseless, so they took her back to her employer but he refused to let her in. The other maid complained to the Indian embassy about harassment by her employer.
Both the cases were referred for repatriation.
Overtime, similar stories of harassment of Indian maids have been reported from other Gulf states too, prompting New Delhi to impose strict guidelines for Indian maids seeking employment abroad.
