Shillong, Oct 16 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister Donkupar Roy today said that Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MSERC) will examine the suggestions, comments and views from the public before finalising the proposed hike in power tariff.

The MSERC had already invited comments of interested persons before determining the power tarif, Dr Roy said in the Assembly.

He was replying to a call attention motion moved by Pynshai Manik Syiem (IND) on the new power tariff.

The influential Khasi Student's Union and Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong had objected to the proposed power tariff up to 111 per cent more than the present rate.

Mr Syiem pointed out that the enhanced rate will put a burden on the common man.

As per the recommendations of MSERC the MeSEB had submitted its first tariff petition to MSERC in June 2007.

Dr Roy said the views or objections from the public regarding the new power tariff could be raised before finalising the tariff.

After hearing the views and proposals, Dr Roy said the MSERC, by an order, will determine the new tariff within a period not exceeding 120 days from the receipt of the tariff application by MeSEB.
