Kolkata, Oct 16 (UNI) Dunlop India Limited has inducted 1202 workmen as permanent employees in its Sahaganj unit in Hooghly out of those who were on the company's rolls when the erstwhile management closed the plant.
The new management, Ruia group of companies, in its agreement with the trade unions, had promised to in take 1179 workers. However, considering the immediate need, the management has decided to increase the number to 1238 after completing absorption of the agreed 1179. Taking casual workers into account Sahaganj now has about 1600 workers.
The Sahaganj plant has started operation 7 days a week from October 14 to enahance production of four-wheeler tyres.
Commenting on the latest development, Chairman of Dunlop India Ltd Pawan Kumar Ruia said, "We'd like to see Dunlop operating 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. This is a step toward making the Sahaganj Unit a post-effective, high quality manufacturer of tyres and industrial products.", He said "very soon Sahaganj will surpass plant's previous records in production and productivity".
On October 14 Sahaganj also witnessed daylong walk-in-interviews for technical positions at various levels of the plant. Out of the 1000 odd candidates interviewed on Sunday, 81 have aslready been issued appointment letters, while a further 170 have been selected for progressive absorption.
