Puducherry, Oct 16 (UNI) AIADMK state secretary A Anbazhagan today alleged that the territorial administration was convening the legislative assembly session just for a formality.
Talking to reporters here, he sought the intervention of Lt Governor Mukut Mithi to conduct the winter session for at least a week.
As per rules, the legislative assembly with less than 100 members should meet for at least 50 days in a year, he pointed out and said despite bringing it to the notice of the administration, no steps were taken to follow this and the assembly had been summoned to meet on October 24. It was not known whether the session would be for one day or one hour, he added.
He said the assembly had already adopted an unanimous resolution seeking to provide 13 per cent reservation to the minorities and forwarded it to the Centre for its approval. But reports indicate that only five per cent reservation would be provided to them and wondered what was the correct percentage.
Stating that Dengu fever was on the rise in Puducherry, he said several budget promises, including provision of free colour television, free rice and free land for the landless were yet to be implemented.
Apart from this, Puducherry was also becoming a "Crime City" with the increase in murder and burglary cases. All these issues could be debated only in the legislative assembly, he said and alleged that the government was convening the legislative session for one or two days as it was afraid of facing the issues.
The 36th Foundation Day of the AIADMK would be celebrated here tomorrow. Household utensils and welfare assistance would be provided to 1,000 people besdies a purse of Rs one lakh would be given to the family of an AIADMK volunteer Jayapal, who died in an accidentental death recently on the occasion, he added.
