Akola, Maharashtra, Oct 16 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has advised farmers to adopt new agricultural techniques and practices to increase production.
Inaugurating the Agro Technology Week and Grand Agro Exhibition, organised by the Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, here today, the Chief Minister urged farmers to adopt new seeds to enhance their production.
The Chief Minister, on the occasion, sanctioned Rs 20 crore for the university's development. He also declared grants to farmers for purchasing threshers.
Mr Deshmukh assured that rules would be relaxed for development of saline tracts.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister expressed regrets over the alleged defamatory remarks made against Vidarbha farmers during a function on September 1 which was organised by the Maharashtra Cotton Brokers Association.
Bharatiya Janata Party activists, raised slogans against the Chief Minister to condemn the alleged derogatory remarks made on the last occasion. Around 100 activists were detained by the police and later released.
