Bellary, Oct 16 (UNI) In a major upset, top seed Pavol Cervanak of Slovokia was shown the door by recently crowned Indian National Champion Ashutosh Singh in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to storm into the Quarter finals of the US Dollar 15,000 Bellary Open ITF Futures here today.
Day two witnessed another upset, when eighth seed Alexey Kedryuk of Kazkhstan was trounced by qualifier Robert Belak of Serbia to move to pre-quarter final stage.
It was a career best win for 25-year-old Ashutosh, who played a flawless game.
Besides Ashutosh, Sunil Sipaeya and Shivang Mishra were the other Indians who entered the last eight stage winning their respective matches.
While Sipaeya beat fellow Indian Vijay Kannan in a close three setter that lasted for 106 minutes, Shivang Mishra played well to beat Aditya Madkekar in a marathon match that lasted three hours.
Madkekar playing with a deep blister in his hand often struggled with his serve. Madkekar wasted set points in the first set tie break. The score was 7-6 (9) 6-7 (1) 6-3.
