AIADMK group clash: 4 more held
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 16 (UNI) The arrests made in connection with Sunday's group clash among AIADMK volunteers at Lalgudi near here rose to 51 with four more persons taken into custody today.
Police said political rivalry over a party building activities resulted in the clash between supporters of Lalgudi Panchayat Councillor Dharmaraj and Jayalalithaa Peravai Union Secretary Vijayamurthy.
Trouble began when Dharmaraj's supporters went to Vijayamurthy's house and ransacked the premises and attacked the inmates badly damaging the Peravai functionary's car and two-wheeler.
In retaliation, Vijayamurthy's supporters ransacked Dharamarj's house.
Police rushed to the spot and attempted to disperse the mob which soon indulged in stone pelting in which at least ten people including , Inspector of Police Govindaraj, were injured.
The injured were admitted to the government hospital in Lalgudi.
Police seized a car and a two-wheeler used by Dharmaraj's suppoters.
Police made elaborate security arrangements and involved in intensive patrolling in Lalgudi to maintain peace.
