Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) The Union Territory Forests Department has supplied as many as 27,472 numbers of saplings by free distribution for plantation on the public land during the past six months, i e between April to September.
Giving further information in this regard here, an official spokesman said that as much as 4.03 hectare of area had been covered under plantation on public and forest land during the month of September.
So far, area measuring 218.11 hectare has been brought under plantation as against the target of 150 hectare of land to be brought under plantation during the year 2007-08, he added.
In the same way, 4,580 numbers of seedlings have been planted in the concerned month. So far, 1,24,306 numbers of seedlings have been planted as against the target of planting one lakh seedlings on public and forest land during 2007-08. There is also enrichment plantation in the existing forests over an area of 108 hectare to improve the bio-diversity of the forest.
