Ludhiana, Oct 15: Six persons were killed and 33 injured in a powerful bomb blast inside the Mini Shingar complex, housing three cinema halls in the heart of city yesterday night.
Four persons including, a child died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital, DIG Ishwar Singh told mediapersons here.
Of the 33 injured, 20 were admitted in the CMC hospital while the rest were admitted in the Civil hospital.
According to the DIG a majority of the victims were migrant labourers who were watching the Bhojpuri film 'Janam Janam Ka Saath Hai'', being screened in the main hall of the Shingar cinema hall.
The Hindi films 'Bhool Bhulaiya' and 'Jai Vikaranta' were being screened in the two adjoining halls of the complex- Mini Shingar and Midhi Shingar respectively.
The bodies of the four victims who were killed on the spot were mutilated beyond recognition. So far none of the victims have been identified.
Police officials at the site of the blast said that the explosive device was placed in the front rows of the hall. The impact of the blast was so powerful that it shattered the window panes of the cinema hall at the main entrance.
The explosion was also uprooted the number of chairs in the hall.
The scene of the blast presented a gory picture with human limbs and blood spattered all around the place.
The owners of Shingar complex said that there was a heavy rush of migrant labourers to watch the Bhojpuri film. A large number of migrant muslim families who celebrated Id-ul-Fitr today reside in the vicinity of Shingar complex.
