Aizawl, Oct 15: More than 20 government middle schools in Lunglei district of Mizoram were planning to abstain from holding Hindi examinations in the next Mizoram Board of School Leaving Certificate exams in November.

School officials said here today they had no choice but to cancel the Hindi examinations following non-availability of Hindi teachers throughout the year.

''Most of the middle schools belong to rural areas while all the Hindi teachers have been transferred to urban areas,'' the officials said.

The school headmasters had brought the matter to the notice of the Lunglei education officer and the Middle School Teacher Association (MTSA).

However, they alleged the MTSA did not give due importance to the matter and handed it over to the Hindi Teachers' Association (HTA) to resolve it among themselves.

Meanwhile, the students,' parents and teachers were worried about the students' performance in the subject in the coming board examinations as Hindi was a compulsory subject.

They alleged that since most of the HTA members were posted at urban areas, they were not bothered about the students of the remote areas.
