Ordinance uncostitutional: ISRO

Kochi, Oct 15 (UNI) The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), embroiled in a legal battle over the ecological status of land purchased by it for the Space Institute, today contended before the Kerala High Court that all Ordinances, except the first one, relating to the disputed land at Ponmudi were unconstitutional and void.

The ISRO made the contention in its petition for amending its earlier writ petition, challenging the order of the Divisional Forest Officer which barred the space agency from carrying out any activity at the land purchased from a private estate owner.

In the affidavit filed along with the petition, ISRO Director B N Suresh stated that after the first ordinance of 2000, declaring the area as ecologicaly fragile land, the Governmment had promulgated ordinances successively, which was unconstitutional.
