Hyderabad, Oct 15 (UNI) Chinese athlete Zhide Cui fetched the first gold of the 4th Military World Games by winning the men's 20 km walk competition here today.
Cui clocked 1::23:43 to finish first while last Games' bronze medalist Ivan Trotski of Belarus pocketed the silver with a timing of 1::25:23.7.
Matej Toth of Slovakia (1::25:42.7) grabbed the bronze in the 10-athelte field.
Cui, however, could not touch the Games' record of 1::21:42 set by Latvian A Fadejeve in 2003.
In men's 400m race preliminaries, India's Sarish qualified for the final after finishing fourth in heat number two with a timing of 48.52 second. Amarasekara of Sri Lanka won the heat, clocking 46.84 sec.
In heat number one, Kenya's Mark came first with a timing of 47.09 sec while Pushpa Kumar of Sri Lanka and Bakar of Sudan won heats third and fourth respectively.
Indian contingent is hoping to strike it big in the boxing competitions which begin today. India is fielding contestants in all 11 weight categories.
Doha Asian Games V Johnson (+91 kg) leads the Indian challenge which also will be strengthened by the presence of Som Bahadur Pun (64 kg) and AL Lakra (57 kg), besides last Games' bronze winner KN Belwal (51 kg).
