New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) The BJP today lashed out at the Congress for pressuring the Election Commission to reschedule election in Himachal Pradesh and urged the Commission not to succumb to their pressure.

A six-member BJP delegation led by party Vice President M A Naqvi submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission describing as 'unfortunate' and 'objectionable' the manner in which some Congress leaders, including Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, were pressuring the Commission to change the election dates.

It showed that the Congress was afraid of going to polls at this point of time, it said.

The delegation also impressed upon the Commission to enforce Model Code of Conduct so that the Government machinery could not be used for election purposes by the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues.

Besides Mr Naqvi, those who signed the memorandum include former Himachal Pradesh Chief Ministers Shanta Kumar and Prem Kumar Dhumal, party Prabhari of State Satya Pal Jain, BJP HP President Jai Ram Thakur and Sah Prabhari Om Prakash Dhankar.
