Dhaka, Oct 15 (UNI) Around 80 fishermen boarding eight trawlers reportedly went missing in the Bay of Bengal, off Kuakata coast in southern Patuakhali district of Bangladesh due to rough weather.

Hundreds of Eid holiday makers got stranded in hotels and motels at Kuakata sea beach as the weather turned rough.

Vice-president of Mahipur Alipur Fish Traders Association, Abul Hossain said the fishing-trawlers were in the sea to catch fish on October 9 and were scheduled to return on October 13.

''But those fishermen have not returned yet,'' Mr Hossain added.

Another report said three trawlers with 30 fishermen capsized in the bay off southern Barguna coast today afternoon due to the bad weather . One fisherman among them was rescued.

An officer of Patuakhali port, Shahidullah, said launch services on 21 internal routes were suspended from today morning following the inclement weather.

Meanwhile, Meteorology office in Dhaka said, the sea remained rough under the influence of ''deep convective clouds''over the North Bay.

Under the calamitous weather, bay waves measuring four to five foot high are lashing at the coast, the Met department reported.
