47 held in AIADMK group clash
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 15 (UNI) At least 47 AIADMK volunteers were arrested in connection with a group clash at Lalgudi, near here, late last night.
Police said political rivalry over a party's building activities resulted in a clash between supporters of Lalgudi Panchayat Councillor Dharmaraj and Jayalalithaa Peravai Union Secretary Vijayamurthy.
Trouble began when Dharmaraj's supporters went to Vijayamurthy's house, ransacked the premises and attacked the inmates badly damaging the Peravai functionary's car and two-wheeler.
In retaliation, Vijayamurthy's supporters ransacked Dharamarj's house.
Police rushed to the spot and attempted to disperse the mob which soon indulged in stone pelting in which at least ten people, including Inspector of Police Govindaraj, were injured.
The injured were admitted to the government hospital in Lalgudi.
Police seized a car and a two-wheeler used by Dharmaraj's supporters.
Police stepped up security and intensified patrolling in Lalgudi to maintain peace.
