Sirsi, Karnataka, Oct 14: The Second unit of country's prestigious Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant was heading towards creating a world record by generating power continuously for 406 days.
Official Sources said that the 440 MW unit has completed 401 days of generating power continuously yesterday and if it continuous to generate for six more days it would be a world record in the field of generating the nuclear power in the world.
The record of generating power continuously for 406 days stands in the name of a Nuclear Power Plant of United States of America.
Now it is the time for 2nd unit of Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant to make the world record, sources added. At present two 440 MW capacity units are generating power and third and fourth unit of the same capacity are set ready to produce the power.
Kaiga Nuclear Plant, for good maintenance, has bagged several prizes including Gold Medal from Central Power Authority, 'Swarna Mayura' award from World Environment Foundation, prestigious awards from National Security Organisations are prominent among the award bagged by the unit, sources added.
