Jammu, Oct 14 (UNI) A junior commissioned officer (JCO) of Army today sacrificed his life in a fierce gunbattle with terrorists at general area of Gandoh in Doda district, while security forces apprehended hardcore LeT militants in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here today.
Acting on a specific information about the presence of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, the troops of 22 and 26 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Doda police launched a joint operation in the general area of Joura under Gandoh police station in the wee hours today, sources said.
Sources further revealed that the militants operating in the area had laid an ambush and fired at the searching party which was retaliated effectively and in the ensuing firing, army subedar namely Surya Bali lost his life.
In another encounter which took place at the general area of Kishtwar, 63 RR and police apprehended three hardcore Lashkar militants who have been identified as Nissar Ahmed alias Maaz, Ghulam Ahmed alias Abu Qasim and Farooq Ahmed alias Abu Sufion, sources said adding that three AK rifles, five magazines, one Chinese Grenade and 75 AK rounds seized from the possession of the militants.
According to a report from Mahore, 59 Rashtriya Rifles under aegis of 15 Sector in an operation, suffered two non-fatal casualties in general area Kainar in Mahore at 1130 hrs today when militants threw grenade taking cover of thick jungles.
Naib Subedar Malsuma and Sepoy D Sonawal have been evacuated to command Hospital at Udhampur. Both the casualties are stable.
