New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) About two lakh Muslims today celebrated Eid ul-Fitr at the Fatehpuri Shahi Masjid here with religious fervour and gaiety amidst tight security.
Shahi Imam Hazrat Maulana Mufti M Mukram Ahmed Saheb led the Eid namaz, a press release said.
Tight security arrangements marked the celebration. A repeat of Ajmer blast loomed large. However, the Muslim devouts appeared to have left the ghastly incident behind. The spirit of Eid united the worshippers gathered at the Masjid this morning to attend the special congregational prayers.
''Eid is a day of forgiveness, moral victory, peace of congregation, fellowship, brotherhood and unity,'' the Shahi Imam said.
Meanwhile, there are reports about the security tips being announced over microphone for the first time this year at Jama Masjid.
Heavy security arrangements were made at the mosque on the occasion. The approaching roads gave look of a fortress. However, the devouts swayed with enthusiasm. The presence of gun-totting securitymen had not diminished the festive spirit.
The Shahi Imam prayed for peace and greeted Hindu brethren for Dussehra and Diwali festivals.
