Police sources quoting eyewitnesses from the spot said the mishap occurred at around 0730 hours when the loaded Kolkata bound truck lost control and hit the roadside shed killing seven people on the spot and injuring about 12 others.
Later another person succumbed to his injuries at the Aurangabad District hospital. All the injured were also rushed to the same hospital by the local people.
Police said that the death toll might increase as some more people were believed to be still trapped under the rubble of the passenger shed and truck. The truck, coming from Delhi, has been seized and both the driver and helper were absconding. However, efforts were on to nab them.
Meanwhile, protesting against the accident, local people set up road blocks on NH two for about an hour, which was later withdrawn following the intervention of senior district police officials.
