Silchar, Oct 14 (UNI) The Army and CRPF bomb squad today defused three powerful bombs recovered from under a bridge near Sonai in Assam's Cachar district yesterday.
Police here said the incident had triggered panic in the area, dominated by minorities, during the ongoing celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Police said on the basis of an intelligence report, the Army and the CRPF conducted a search operation at Sonai-Matinagar-Didarkhush Road last night and recovered three Improvised Explosive Device from under two pillars of Thakuria bridge over the Sonai river.
The area was cordoned off and traffic on the road stopped till the bombs were defused by Army Bomb squad at about 1000 hrs.
Even as no militant outfit has taken any responsibility of the incident, the police have started a search operation in the area.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Satyen Gogoi said the outfits were out to disrupt the Eid and Durga Puja festivity in the Barak Valley areas of the state and hence the security had been tightened.
He urged the people and the puja committees to be careful and maintain strict vigil near the pandals.
