Mysore, Oct 14 (UNI) Over 2,500 sportspersons from all over Karnataka will be competing for top honours in the three-day Dasara State-level sports meet, to be declared open here tomorrow by World Billiards champion Chitra Magimairaj.
Addressing newspersons here today, Youth and Sports Commissioner Amarkumar Pande said as many as 24 events for both boys and girls would be held in athletics and indoor games at Chamundivihar Sports Stadium, while other events like Football, Hockey, Tennis, Ball badminton and Swimming would be held in the University grounds.
Events like Weight Lifting and Power Lifting, besides best physique competitions have been added to the meet events.
A Half Marathon would be held for men, women, boys and girls on October 16 and more than 1,000 competitors were expected to participate in it. The distances would be 21.1 km for men and women, 12 km for college girls and 6 km for high school boys and girls.
A cycle race from Bangalore to Mysore for Men and Ramanagaram to Mysore for women would also be held.
Mr Pande said it was decided to increase the award amount to 'Kreeda Rathna' for record breaking performance by sportspersons during the meet to Rs 5,000 from this year.
