Agartala, Oct 14 (UNI) Altogether 18 inmates of the Agartala Central Jail today celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with religious fervour and enthusiasm in prison.
Jail officials said the inmates, including seven serving life terms, gathered early in the morning to offer 'Namaz' at the jail backyard and attended the sermon followed by a short congregational prayer.
Celebrations started on the last day of the holy month of 'Ramzan' after confirmation was received on the month of Shawwal beginning.
The jail authorities also participated in the functions Eid-ul-Fitr while Jailor Santosh Bahadur told UNI that the spirit of generosity and charity, associated with this festival, promoted the feeling of brotherhood among the people and helped usher in a humane society.
''According to the jail manual, it is our duty to ensure the celebration of the religious festivals of the inmates with due importance,'' he informed.
