Mumbai, Oct 13: Automobile major Tata Motors has indigenously developed a range of armoured vehicles which will be displayed at the Military World Games (WMG) being held in Hyderabad and Mumbai from tomorrow.
The display was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju in Hyderabad today. The Military World Games will begin from October 14 in Hyderabad, later the venue will shift to Mumbai for the cycling and triathlon events from October 16-19.
Being displayed for the first time, the 29-seater armoured bus has features like shatter proof glass, under-belly blast protection and side bomb protection. It is currently undergoing trials with the Indian army.
While, the bullet proof LPA 713 Light Armoured Troop Carrier can carry ten personnel and is equipped with features like National Institute of Justice (NIJ), US level III protection for crew (7.62 mm SLR at 10 m), hand grenade protection for underbelly, six firing ports and weapon mount on cupola ring. It also has run flat tyres, three exit doors, explosive suppressant material in the fuel tank and climate control or heating ventilation air conditioning (HVAC).
While the armoured safari is a level III protection vehicle for VVIPs (7.62 mm SLR at 10 m) equipped with features like hand grenade protection for under belly, extra wide footsteps for escorts and Red Yellow Green (RYG) indicator for escort vehicles. It comes with comfortable interiors, plush seating, fine-tuned suspension and HVAC. The armoured Safari has run flat tyres, five exit doors and explosive suppressant material in the fuel tank.
Similarly, the armoured sumo can be used for counter insurgency operations and as a VIP escort vehicle. It comes with NIJ level III protection for a crew of six (7.62 mm SLR at 10 m) and additional features similar to the safari.
