Kaithal, Oct 13 (UNI) Police has busted an inter-state gang of robbers and arrested 7 of 11 members, mainly hailing from Uttar Pradesh, after seizing country-made pistol, air pistol, iron rods, some vehicles and cash from them.
SSP Anil Kumar told mediapersons here today that following preliminary interrogation of the arrested accused, police has solved a case in which Rs 1.50 lakh were stolen from a motorcycle out side the LIC office few months ago.
The accused were produced in a local court here today which sent them to 10-day police remand for further interrogation.
SHO city, Ravinder Kumar said that on a tip-off that 11 armed robbers belonging to Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh were planning to loot cash from persons withdrawing cash from banks, police kept a watch at HDFC Bank on Ambala road and acted as decoy customer withdrawing large amounts of cash.
The 11-member gang of robbers surrounded them as soon as they came out of the bank and looted the bag at pistol point.
However, policemen deployed in civil clothes overpowered three of the robbers while others managed to flee on two scooters and a motorcycle.
After a hot-chase, four of them were also overpowered by the police.
Those arrested have been identified as Shashi Kapoor, Sonu, Amit Kumar, Shiv Kumar, Ashish, Parminder Kumar and Barjesh all residents of Adarsh Colony Moradabad.
The SSP said that the four others who escaped had been identified as Ashish, Jai Kumar and Gian Singh also residents of Moradabad and police hoped to arrest them soon .
The SSP further said that during preliminary investigation the accused have confessed stealing Rs 1. 50 lakh from the dicky of a motorcycle outside LIC office in May. The money was stolen from Naubat Singh Of Rajound, who had lodged a complaint to this effect with the police here.
