Panaji, Oct 13 (UNI) The by-election to Mormugao Parliamentary Constituency, earlier scheduled to be held on October 30, has now been postponed by a day to October 31 as scrutiny of nomination papers could not be held with the Goa government declaring public holiday today on account of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
With this, the election authorities had decided to scrutinise the papers on October 15 and allow withdrawal of nominations till October 17. The counting of votes would be held on November 3.
Five candidates in all filed their nomination papers yesterday, the main being Mr Francisco Sardinha (Congress) and Dr Wilfred Mesquita (BJP). Others include BJP's dummy candidate Viswas Satarkar and two independents Hamza Khan and Jawahar Dias.
