Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Oct 12 (UNI) The chief judicial magistrate P R Deshmukh today remanded five people, including two cops, to police custody till October 17, for raping a 15-year-old girl in April this year.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had sought their custody, saying that they had not cooperated during the invesigations into the alleged rape of the minor in April.
The five were arrested and produced before the court yesterday.
But, due to lack of record, the court had remanded them in judicial custody while asking the investigating officer to produce record today. The CID produced the record today and claimed that the eight accused had not cooperated in the investigations under one or the other pretexts. So the court remanded the five to police custody.
The arrested accused include former assistant commssioner of police (Aurangabad) B U Palwe, constable Syed Azhar, Nationalist Congrss Party workers Sajed Bhim and Dilip Deshmukh and a hotel owner Jaffer.
The CID sleuths are yet to arrest three other accused involved in the case. They include inspector Shivaji Kamble, PSI Dulbaji Dhakne, assistant police sub-inspector Sajed Husain, according to CID sources.
All the eight accused had been asked to surrender on October 10 when the Supreme Court set aside aside the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court's order of granting them conditional bail. The CID had challenged the HC's decision in the Supreme Court. The 15-year-old girl had accused a number of persons including policemen, of sexually exploiting her. The police had registered an offence against 19 persons in this connection.
