S'pore welcomes UN decision and urges Junta to cooperate
Singapore, Oct 12 (UNI) Singapore today welcomed the United Nations' decision to send back its special envoy Ibrahim Gambari to Myanmar and called on the Junta to heed the wishes of the international community.
''We welcome and fully support the presidential statement. The Security Council's strong and unanimous support for the UN Secretary-General's Good Offices mission and for the Secretary-General's Special Advisor Ibrahim Gambari to return to Myanmar as early as possible, in order to facilitate concrete actions and tangible results, is a very significant development,'' the Singapore Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Singapore urged the Myanmar government to heed the wishes of the international community and to extend its cooperation to the special envoy.
