New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today ruled out the rapid rise of her son, Rahul, in the political heirarchy and the government, stating that he would have to work hard to prove his mettle and earn higher positions.
''Of course, he would get a headstart'' as he was from a family with a political history, but this did not automatically guarantee an easy passage to the top, Ms Gandhi said.
She made the statement during an interaction with senior journalists and captains of industry who had assembled at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit.
Mr Rahul Gandhi was recently appointed AICC General Secretary in charge of Congress' frontal organisations, NSUI and the Youth Congress.
Ms Gandhi said her son took three years to accept the greater role in the party as he wanted to gain political experience. This he did by working for the party in Uttar Pradesh and campaigning in the assembly elections there, she said.
He had the advantage of a political background like many other young politicians in the Congress and much meaning should not be read into this, she said.
